Formula Apprentice Machining Academy

Fostering The Next Industry-Ready Skilled Apprentices

Many apprentices and young engineers graduate or complete their training without hands-on experience in the real-world of manufacturing and machining.

Formula Apprentice Machinist programme

  • Provides real, production-based experience with motorsports components.

  • Develop skills in milling, turning, EDM,CAD/CAM, and project management

  • Prepares apprentices for real industry expectation, beyond textbook learning

TRAINING ACADEMY

Apprentices will follow a structured, hands-on workflow that mirrors real motorsport manufacturing. Given technical drawings and access to machines, tools, and support, they’ll learn to:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings

  • Create CAM programs for CNC machining

  • Set up and operate CNC machines

  • Select tools and materials appropriately

  • Inspect and measure components for quality

  • Solve problems and adapt machining strategies

  • Communicate effectively within a team

This end-to-end experience builds real-world skills in precision engineering, teamwork, and responsibility — preparing apprentices for a careers in motorsport and advanced manufacturing

As part of our commitment to empowering the next generation of engineers, our Formula Apprentice Machining Program proudly produced a full set of steering system and suspension components for Formula Student race car.

These precision-engineered parts are now actively used in R&D and Race Competition.

ARVIN, LEVEL 3 APPRENTICESHIP IN CNC MACHINING

“i wanted to do an apprenticeship because i wanted to gain work experience and a theoretical knowledge, i think for a job in engineering, you need both, as you learn a lot at work from your colleagues who have a lot of experience than you and which they can pass on. one aspect of my apprenticeship that i have enjoyed the most would be working on the ‘Formula Student’ programme with the University of Birmingham because i love cars. Working on something like this was great as i was involved in the project planning and machining of precision components for the 2024 and 2025 race car, this experience was great because its hands-on, very engaging. The highlight of this experience came when we finished the components for the car and were able to watch it race at Silverstone the home of Formula 1, which was a brilliant day out!
